I posted a photo of red-orange lycopene pigment from mushed up tomato in
oil solvent over on iris-photos.
The red pigment in dark red Impatiens is water/alcohol soluble, a lovely
pink color when diluted. (no photo)
After doing a few of these extractions and reading comments from Neil
about synthesis of red vs orange pigments, I wonder are irisarians
chasing after tangerine pinks instead of water soluble (anthocyanin?)
pinks in iris blooms?
Is it because it's so hard to get only water soluble pink pigments
without the blue also being present?
Or impossible to get enough pigment concentration for it to appear more
than pale pink?
Has anybody tried to get pinks from the very dark blues or blacks (BLACK
FOREST type) that have color intensifiers, co-factors, or whatever they
are from I. (drat... mental blank... the little tet species with all the
branching).
