You mentioned a 'garden secretary'. What is this?

With color codes. Every cross got a black label when it was lined out.
[More than one label if there was more than one row of seedlings from the
cross.] Each individual that went on my "watch list" got its own a red
label. Breeders got a blue label. Those that survived the selection
sequence got an additional silver marker to identify them as candidates for
the "name game". I kept a supply of paper tags in the garden secretary, so
that visitors could suggest names. If I used one of those suggestions, that
person got a free rhizome when I introduced it. Amazing how many paper tags
some of my selections attracted.....
