REB:Total Recall
I'd like to expand my knowledge of Ben's Hager's rebloomers, starting with
an evaluation of TOTAL RECALL. I'm not looking for show bench qualities here,
but garden value. And, parent value.
I've read the Jones's wedding story in the Recorder, and I know of at least
one person that has trouble with anything from Hager.
I'll start this off with my evaluation.
I have TR in two spots. It originally came on the property as an anonymous
iris named "Neil's Rebloomer," later identified as TR. I'm 100 % sure of the
ID. It was in a pot for about 2 years, developed rot, and never bloomed.
But once I put it in the ground, it took off like a house afire, and has been
blooming ever since. Other piece came from a different source but is the
same. Both clumps have bloomed this summer/fall.
On the good side: In comparison to many rebloomers, it is relatively tall,
is loaded with blooms and the branching is fair. It is a VERY good rebloomer
here in my garden.
On the bad side: The falls are tucked/pinched, not great substance (one
reason the falls tuck), and it's another yellow on white. Also, it's older than
many. I don't consider this last factor to be a deal killer . . . IF the
cultivar has enough good qualities.
I do value the opinion of others. Please? And thank you in advance.
