Hi Linda,
My favorite variegata is an oldie from Keith Keppel, AUTUMN LEAVES,
introduced in 1974. I got it from a fellow locally, but I see that Newburn's
had it in 2000.
Standards blended brown; falls washed red-purple (M&P 47-J-6) blending to
carbuncle (8-L-7) and syrup at edge; orange-yellow beard. Keppel 1974.
It is not real bright, but I like the brownish ones anyway, and this one is
a kind of butterscotch/reddish combo. It is very tall, very reliable, altho
the stalks fall over, and it sets beepods every year. I haven't planted any
seeds yet but they should be interesting. It is a huge flower and not very
tailored unlike some of the oldies. But of course 1974 isn't all that old.
Anyway, we are crazy about it, and it multiplied like crazy. I need to move
it or share it or both!
Cheers, Barb

Which variegatas have you found to be the healthiest and most reliable?
From any era.
Especially interested in really showy red and yellow ones.
