Has anyone done any research on this?
The Avant (sp?) Gardener years ago reported on a study on Long Island
relating to soil temperatures and transplanting perennials. The recommendation was
more on watching soil temperature than air temperature. Seems the minimum
was 30 days of 45 degree soil temperature for good survival on Long Island.
As the time period increased survival and prospering increased. What
surprised me was that up to three years later the effects of planting too close to
minimal soil temperature could be measured. Of course this was with shrubs.
