There is transition tissue as beard changes to a flounce. As you have noted, this can have intermediate colours between beard and falls. But only in this small area where beard changes to a flounce. When flounce is a full flounce it will be essentially fall tissue.

If a Space age feature is a horn projection it can have a greater intensity of fall colour, as this will be an extended transition tissue.

It's only a consolation right now, but when my Iris database is complete and published it can be sorted to tell you which varieties have tints of color in the flounces different from the Falls. I have already noticed while entering them that there are a few that have horns with more intense anthocyanin that the Falls. Also some with deeper carotenoids than the norm when a white Fall patch is present. Just from memory though.

It might be possible to transfer the intensity from the horn to the flounce much like the the beard color was "disassociated" from the petal color long ago.

Right now it would take me a couple hours to find them as they are not in a compiled format yet and all aren't entered at the moment. They will hopefully all be entered by end of January, then a bit of editing and you/we will be able to search any character.

The flounces would be same colour as the tissue they originate from.
As
they originate from falls, they have same colour as falls.

Yes they are coming from beard, but the beard is modified petal tissue
of falls. As a beard they are under control of tissue identity as
beard. When they become petaloids, they are under control of petal
genetics.

Subject: [iris] [HYB] Flounces

Ibm interested in breeding for flounces, especially flounces of a
different
color than the primary flower color if possible. Ibm not even sure if
it is
possible given that the flounce is commonly a petaloid of the same
tissue type
as the primary petals but coming out of what would be the beard.
Still,
if we
can have standards & falls of different colors perhaps it might be
possible to
develop a flounce of a different color.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of spaceage iris that
consistently show
a flounce? Can any of you give suggestions for potential breeding
stock
for
flounces?

I have tried to join the spaceage robin but there does not seem to be
any
activity there in quite some time.

Which hybridizers are working on spaceage iris these days?

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
