Am not familiar with soil thermometers per se, but think a dial type
thermometer like used by refrigeration repairmen (similar price) might work?
avail. at refrigeration supply house.

Can anybody recommend a source of inexpensive soil thermometers? I'd
like to get about 4 of them to compare different exposures, soil
composition, mulches, and cultivar performance. I found some in an
on-line source and asked for info, but haven't heard back yet. They
were listed for $8 plus ship. Others have been more expensive.
