Dennis--these are the official rainfall amounts
for 8/29-9/30. This was the one of the driest Septembers
we have had, along with a similar one in 1997. Normal rainfall
averaged over the last 38 years averages 3.1 inches for September.
These were taken at Lunken Airport. Note, most of the rain was widely
scattered, had a lot less north of Cincinnati. Also, this was the warmest
September in the last several years, with a daily average high of 84.1
and average daily low of 59.1. The average high was about 7 degrees or more
above normal. I don't know if heat, or the combo of heat and dry did them in or not.
My bearded and Japanese seedlings fared well, althought the JI were a bit
on the distressed side. Were your seedlings in pots or in the ground?

9/18--0.21
9/19--0.01
