We have a similar phenomenon here whereby, every summer, the wind picks
up the top layer of red soil from Dianne Dalla-Santa's garden in Swan
Hill, and deposits it in my garden in Castlemaine. (slight exaggeration
- but very close to the truth). This layer is, unfortunately very thin,
but spreads itself evenly over the garden, the cars, and my Grand Piano.
(perhaps I should try planting something there?) It is very fertile
(from the fertiliser additions made on wheat farms) and also introduces
new varieties of weeds, for our pleasure.
How long would I have to wait for it to build to a depth of several
hundred feet? :-)
