OT: Climates American Vs. Germany

Marja,
     Your climate sounds like it may be similar to that of coastal
Washington and Oregon, with you being a little colder in winter.  You are
drier than the area I mentioned by quite a bit.  
     I have been in Florida slightly over one year, and am trying to grow
several types of Irises, with Louisianas and some beardless species looking
the most promising.  Four Siberians appear to be fine so far.  
    In the one year I have been here, the temperatures have ranged from -4
C up to 42 C, with the 42 C being a new record during a record hot summer.
