To the best of my knowledge, Pine needles and Pine bark will create
acidity in the soil. I have been using Pine needles for much around the
beardless Irises, and using a Pine needle/Oak leaf mix for most of the
other plants. So far, the results have been good. One note is that the
material I am using is aged material.
