Suffering heavily from irophilia last year (and very inexperienced), I
purchased I. millesii ('died'), I. forrestiana (died - lack of water?),
a pot labelled perrenial iris, with a picture of something looking like
I. tectorum ('died'), and a pot labelled dwarf iris, with a description
of I. unguicularis, which produced a small, but pretty, very obviously
PCN flower. The latter two with coloured labels are distributed widely
to supermarkets and chain stores, and, unfortunately I can't resist
'saving' them. It's always interesting to see what you actually get.
I found a pot in my garden the other day, with a small fan in it, and
the label 'esii' (hurrah!) and this week noticed fans coming up where
the 'perrenial iris' was planted. I will be curious to see what these
plants produce in the way of flowers.
I think what I am trying to say is, don't rely too much on what the
nursery, or label claims the plant to be.
BTW - K-Mart still has plastic bags containing soil and dead shreds of
vegetation, labelled 'Bearded Iris' and displayed for sale.
cheers, Jan Clark, in Australia
