Would you like to go for a walk ? A bright blue sky is smiling down on us
as we head for the garden. The zinnias seem to be alive with all of the
butterflies sampling the vibrant shades of crimson red, brilliant orange
and sunny yellow. Next the marigolds are shinning in their own shades of
gold, orange and bronze. All these colors continue on in the scattered
groups of mums. Even the white one says "look at me !" As we wander along
the freshly mowed dark green grass the struggle for fall color is evident.
Maples have just a few red leaves showing while lilacs and redbuds are a
rusty brown. Oops scared off a cottontail. He must have been building a
winter home. Over here and down there you can see a brave iris putting up a
bloom stalk. Don't they know the first frost is due tomorrow ? Maybe a
jacket will help prolong their blooms a day or two. Seed pods on the
balloon flowers make a strange contrast against the sunflowers. Kinda
pretty though. A carpet of chick weed and henbit surround the iris fans
already. The new leaves on the iris are sprouting so fast you can almost
see them growing. Is this a promise of the spring to come ? Red, white and
pink cosmos stand tall and proud in front of the freshly plowed field as
rosy pink clouds float by. The last few plants of petunias, snapdragons,
rose moss and geraniums all seem to be saying goodby as a chilly night
begins. Robins are singing a night song as all our feathered friends find a
place to sleep. Hope you enjoyed the fresh air !!
