questions on late iris

to anyone who can help me on late arrivals.

i ordered irises in late aug. and they have not arrived as yet , tried to
reach nursery to cancel  but had no luck [tel. always busy ] if they do
arrive this late will i be able to plant them in pots, i have been reading
messages on iris talk on how some gardeners have planted iris in pots and
grew them overwinter or should i plant them in the ground [it isn't frozen
yet?]  i'm in zone 4 in se. mn   tom
