Linda--if you are in Zone 4, and you plant the Iris now-from bare-root stock, you do not have to worry about having plants next year--they will probably freeze and dry out over winter--if you mulch them, the mice will take up residence and eat them all winter--I know, I have tried to put them in late with very poor results--pot them into something--not necessarily a separate pot for each, and put them somewhere they will feel the winter but not be out in it--water them lightly, and next spring put them out without disturbing the root-ball--and remember to order early next year--
Re: CULT--maps
Maps are great and go on the computer if the bed is a straight line, but doing curves is harder--I made several copies of the Mounds--at our Club Garden--and just fill in which Iris is where--I use a colored pen--different color each year--so I know when each Iris had been planted without having to look it up-- since we have about 600 Iris there, it is quite a jjob to keep track of the moves each year--
My home garden maps are also color-coded--just on regular size paper and can be laid out to show the complete bed, but are easily
kept in a binder--really a bit hard to store a large map--
AIS Calendars--mine arrived yesterday and as uusual--a very good job was done in the selection of the pictures to use--many are from the Denver meeting, and many I remember being there--it nice to have the pictures and bring back memories from the meeting--I never seem to get mine enlarged and on the wall--
Bennett--glad you are here, am waiting for you to get brave and put your BIO on--and join in the discussions
Would people please put not only the Zone but also which state??? I cannot tell from the addresses where people are---thanks Carryl Zone 4 western Montana
