the discussion about too many style arms and/or standards--here it usually is caused by the cold--and will happen on one or two varieties a year--rarely the same variety each year--the first time I saw a SDB with 6 standards and 6 falls I was truly amazed--some Siberians will also have more then usual--so far, Spurias no--
If TB's are accidently sprayed with 2-4D or something stronger, there are missing petals--standards and/or falls--our club garden was down-wind when the other area was sprayed, and most TB's on one side of the garden showed 'funny' and missing petals--so there is a difference--(we showed the funny ones at our show--Educational Exhibit--how you can make a flower do weird things!!
How about Montana for trying out JI's? We have lonnnnnngggggggg winters with short days, cold and little snow-cover usually--and short growing season--less than 100 days--with cool temps most the time--(Sorry to have to put this here, but a private note to you could not be delivered) and the sun is not out too long during summer--much like some of the Scandanavian countries--Carryl in Western Montana Zone 3/4
