OT:Gloom report and warning

From: "Jan Clark" <janclarx@hotmail.com>

Hi all,
Someone mentioned using computers to do garden maps the other day. I
keep a lot of information about my garden on my computer. This year I
have recorded the date of first and last bloom, and all the crosses I
have made this season, as well as the many useful emails I receive.
I also use my computer for writing up information for my music students,
etc, etc.
One thing that I do not make a habit of doing is regularly backing up my
files to disk.
Well last night the inevitable happened. The whole system crashed.
Thankfully I have a very computer capable husband, who spent hours
trying to get access to my files, then backed the essential stuff up
onto his own computer via our 'intranet'. My disk drive is non
functional, so nothing could be saved to disk.
Now, what I am saying is: Don't let this happen to you. Don't wait until
it's too late. If you have important stuff stored away on your computer,
get a box of disks and BACK IT UP - NOW!

Jan Clark, in Australia
(I have, of course, been writing all those pollenation details down in a
notebook. I'd hate to loose those!)
