SIB & Setosa: pretty seedlings!

I've been catching up on end-of-the-season garden notes and just have to gush....

Seedlings from three of Nell Lancaster's Sibs have been chugging along all summer from seeds germinated this spring. While most from C.BROTHER and an unknown are still averaging about a foot tall, some from DREAMING SPIRES are already 3 feet tall. Cute babies, all of them, skinny as a rail and ramrod straight!

The Sib seeds from Ian Efford *all* germinated and the seedlings are small (poorer soil may be the reason in that part of the garden) but strong. They'll be moved to an area just freshened with compost next spring and it'll be interesting to see what kind of roots they've put down.

The dozens of Setosa kids are from seeds shipped by Duane Buell and have increased from tiny sprouts this spring to some pretty chunky multiple fan irises. A few look large enough to bloom next year (!) and all are already so crowded I'll have to plan a larger area for them in a hurry.

The deer have been considerate enough to eat around all of the irises this year so far, so no doubt all should make it through the winter in fine shape.

I'm becoming convinced the hardest part of raising irises from seed is the wait for them to bloom. :-/
