Re: CULT:iris maps

The backbone of the garden mapping is a heavy 3-ring binder with clear plastic slip covers for each page. This never leaves the house! Except for a few simple lists and photos, nothing is kept on the pc since I wouldn't trust ours any farther than I could throw it (really). The graphics program is used only to draw the maps and scan copies. The easily replacable copies are the *only* maps to go down to the garden so there's no worry about getting these dirty.

A few notes on mapping that were forgotten... Each cv has two to three labels... One pushed in next to it that the cats can't pull out, a second buried under the plant in case they do. A third label is a smooth rock with the name written on in paint marker for the visitors in certain areas of the garden because they have and probably will continue to pull out markers in order to read them.

It might be an excercise in redundancy, but no plant has become unidentified due to lost labels since I began this approach.
