I know a hybridizer who relied on this method..... and was very embarrassed to
learn he was shipping protein with his rhizomes (:
I really think there needs to be a better way to interrupt the life cycle of
the borer... maybe a repulsive spray on the rhizomes
Maybe floating row covers that could be applied in early fall and removed in
early spring
Maybe a moth trap
One thing is for sure.... the person who takes it upon themselves to come up
with a safe and effective method of borer control will have the undying
affection of every grower in the northeast.
