Re: CULT: borer - mowing

From: stickelbg@juno.com (Rebecca A Stickel)

Dennis,

Being another "Ohioan" I will tell you
that a friend of mine took this approach
one year and lost a good many of his
rhizomes the following year. It seemed
to stress the irises too much. This of
course is only one example and could
be a bad one. I just won't risk it.

I did trim all of the irises in one of my beds
to about 8-10 inches this year as an experiment.
We'll see if it hurts or helps. Most of them are
still putting on offsets and new fans even
after having been trimmed. I think mowing
would take off too much foliage.

My 2 cents worth.
