Bill and Arnold,
Thank you for the information about Iris lactea. Let me try to
describe the place I put it. I located it in a part of the flower bed that
is in the frost pocket. I put it on a slope where the soil drains fast, and
it is also out of reach of the sprinkler system. Under very dry
conditions, I do put a hose end sprinkler in that sections, like I did
today.
The plant will get full sun most of the year, but during the summer,
the spot does get a shadow for a couple hours at mid day, when the sun is
most intense. I hope the plant does well there.
After the problems with late freezes in Kentucky, it still feels
rather odd to intentionally put flowers in a frost pocket...
