Murphy's Law again!!!
Many irisarians are reporting the same predicament this week. While Sydney
is experiencing colder-than-normal weather at present, I believe that the
Blue Mountains west of Sydney has experienced snow this week too.
Our friends at Rainbow Ridge were having their Open Weekend this weekend at
Hillview over the mountains, and the temps. there over the last few days
have been more like winter ones than near-summer ones.
The Central West Sub-Region of the NSW Region were also holding their Show
this weekend - with most growers in the "snow belt" area mentioned above.
Growing Iris is a precarious interest at the best of times, with the usual
"pre-Show hail storm" (or worse!!) becoming a regular occurence rather than
an exhibitors poorly-made-up excuse of late.
We have been putting on a Louisiana Iris display at a northern Sydney
suburban nursery this weekend and have thankfully had no mishaps because of
the weather. We were lucky enough to have dug our sale rhizomes and picked
our bloom earlier in the week. Our season on it's last legs now until the
Japs. start blooming......
Will be down in Canberra next weekend to put on a display at the Canberra
Horticultural Show at CIT in Weston. Hope to see you both there so that we
can share your repaired bloom season with you.
