As promised, I forwarded Ian's message about a possible study on the borer
moth to the AIS President-elect for his input on how one goes about getting
funding from AIS for scientific research. This is what was reported back by
Clarence Mahan:
>>To apply for AIS scientific grant money, contact the AIS Scientific
Committee Chairman, Dr. Chandler Fulton, 21 Hillcrest Road, Weston, MA 02193,
telephone: (617) 891-4015. He may have an email (probably does) but I do not
know it.
At same time, one can also apply for scientific iris study grant from the AIS
Foundation. I am affraid I don't know their procedures, but one can contact
the Foundation Liaison, Roger Mazur, 5824 Erskine #7, Omaha, NE 68104---I am
sure he could put you into contact with right person. Let me know if there is
any problem with getting info to apply. Cheers, Clarence<<
Those of us in the northeast long for meaningful borer study that perhaps
interrupts the life cycle without resorting to chemicals that make us edgy.
And I'm sure many of us would be willing to also send donations to the
Scientific Committee and/or the AIS Foundation towards this kind of research.
As the old saying goes "I wondered why somebody didn't do something..... then
I remembered that I'm somebody".
Kathy Guest..in East Aurora, NY where we've had two mornings of very hard
frost and who went on a plant expedition to Ohio yesterday during daylight
hours so is trembling at the carnage she will find among her annuals when the
sun rises this morning..
