Linda, this is a brilliant conclusion about vigor.
I am beginning to unpot things that were potted in July and
early Aug. Some have roots growing out the drainage holes while
others planted at the same time have a less than vigorous root
system. I just wish somebody would manufacture clear plastic
pots so we can watch the developing root systems in actions. I
guess I can get the clear 16 oz plastic drinking cups and chart the
progress.
Those with the vigorous roots systems can be planted in the
fields while those with little root growth can be planted in the ICU
beds near the house where they can be nursed and fed IV's.

Enid Lake, MS 7/8 (living in Eden where garden spiders are
unknown and other spiders are no problem. I have friends who
have had to import two tarantulas. Their pet tarantula recently
died, pined away from losing her mate.who got out in the house
and ran off...maybe looking for another female?)
