Our white tail spiders have much the same effect, and for some reason, have
become more prolific in the last few years.
They often (but not always) carry a bacterium, which infects the flesh,
causing necrosis of tissue, and this can become quite extensive, in some
cases resulting in gangrene, and limb removal. They are not 'poisonous' in
that the do not inject venom.
If I have a suspected bite, and I have had a few, I scrub it immediately,
and thoroughly, with a nail brush, warm water, and soap, and apply ti-tree
oil, which also have antiseptic properties. I have also heard that Aloe Vera
is very useful, and recently bought myself a plant. It's good used fresh on
burns of any type.
