OT-BIO: William M. Groth

From: "William Groth" <groth@rice.edu>

Hello everyone,

I have decided again to look into planting irises in my gardens at home
which should be a
nice contrast to the approx 70 varieties of roses already in the garden. I
live in a nice house
which is "north and west of US Highway 59" in Houston, Texas. I have gotten
the impression
that certain types of irises do not do well in the warmer climate seen
nearer the Gulf Coast
and south of the line from Houston to Laredo.

I currently grow herbs, some day lilies and roses (OGR's and miniatures). I
wanted to try
Irises because they are a beautiful and different flower in form and color
to those I have already
tried. I will be growing some in garden beds and some in containers and I
thought I would
ask for suggestions on the types of irises best suited for the climate and
for those cultures
noted.

I look forward to the conversation and the adventures in this new field of
flower culture.
