<Chuckle> This one is I. unguicularis 'Mary Barnard'. We purchased it
from Colin Rigby at Portable Acres while we lived there in the San
Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County (SCIS members). We 'ported' it along
with us in a pot along with the rest of the garden from the Los Angeles
area to our new location here on the coast of Puget Sound, Washington
almost four years ago. We arrived at our new home during one of the worst
snow blizzards to hit this area, and the temperature was down to 16
degrees F. plus a stiff wind chill factor. The unguicularis proceeded to
bloom like crazy in the pots. Planted into the flower beds in Spring
1996, they refused to come out in 1997. Since then, the 'Mary Barnard'
and 'angustifolium' iris have been blooming at various times from
December to April. The earliest bloom we have seen on these plants before
now was around Thanksgiving time of November in the Los Angeles area.
Perhaps we have the same Portable Acres clones<g>?
