SIB: Questions

From: Barbara Jackson <jacksonb@mb.sympatico.ca>

Good morning talkers,

Barb J. here in crisp and cold zone 3 on the Canadian Prairies. Have a
question about moving siberians in cold weather.

My sister has just sold her house. They have to be out December 1. She put
a condition on the agreement that she be able to dig any or all of her
plants to take with her to her new home. That condition was accepted and
now she needs to know what to do with her siberian iris to keep them alive
over the winter. Having only just got my first sibs this year, I don't know
what to tell her. So, am turning to my iris-talk friends for help for her.

What should she do with them? They have already mostly died back to the
ground and there is very little green on any of them. Hard frosts for about
the last 3 weeks have been experienced pretty well nightly, and snow is
expected to come and stay anytime in the next couple of weeks. Ground is
usually frozen through by mid to late November.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA,

BJ in MB, Canadian Prairies, Zone 3
