REB: October Zone 7b

From: "Lynn Lamb" <lynnagl@mindspring.com>

Hello All,
I was not sure what to title this, but in my walk-about this morning I
was so pleased to see bloomstalks on several of my irises, including one of
the HISTORICS that I planted just this past July...ELEANOR ROOSEVELT. I
also have a bloomstalk on VIOLET MUSIC (this will be it's first bloom in my
garden), FLOWER SHOWER, and CAMEO BLUSH. I almost lost VIOLET MUSIC, the
mother rhizome having rotted, but I potted up the remaining bulblets (?)
that had emerged on the side and then put them in the garden in late August.
They had developed a good set of roots in the pot. I did keep everything
watered this summer and we have had lots of rain here this fall so
far--almost too much, because I am battling rot on several cultivars at this
time. I also consulted Ginny Spoon at Winterberry Gardens numerous times
and took her fertilizing advice, 5-10-10 after first bloom and a foliar
fertilizer in September/early fall. I have already had a long reblooming
spell from ZURICH and AUTUMN CIRCUS.
We will be having our first very cold nights this weekend, but today is
sunny and brisk. I hope none of my blooms gets frozen!!
