Hi all.

I have attended almost all AIS conventions since 1963 and we seldom have
stayed to the convention hotel. We usually drive to the conventions and feel
paying $110 a night for a room is foolish when we can drive to a nearby hotel
and pay $60 a night. The 1965 convention was in Memphis at the Peabody Hotel
before it was remodeled. We stayed there one night with no air conditioning
and a rowdy doctors' convention keeping us awake half the night. Also, we
were near the elevator which made a lot of noise. The next morning we moved
to the motel across the street at a much lower cost. Other conventions I
remember having a convention hotel with high prices were one in San Jose, CA,
and the one in Phoenix, AZ. We didn't stay there. This year's convention
hotel in Oklahoma City was reasonably priced and the accommodations were
good. As we are getting older and not as able to move around, it is better
to stay at the convention hotel unless the prices are exorbitant. So when
planning for a convention, please consider older people and those with
disabilities.
