Re: TB: what's bloomin' in Aus?

From: "Colleen Modra" <irises@senet.com.au>

Hi Dianne and all from Colleen Modra

We've just had a most successful Iris Show, thanks again to the very hard
work put in by the members, especially Pam and Peter Jackson. Poor Darrelle
Watson (secretary) says she never wants to see another rhizome again. We had
lots of blooms despite it being such an early season, but even I was
struggling to find any dwarfs or medians. I can usally have some being so
much later than most of the others. The La and spurias were also good. Peter
Jackson had some of his very nice La seedlings.
The Rose Show was on the same weekend so both clubs exchanged leaflets so
the turnout was excellent.

In our garden the Yaquina Blue is just finishing, it's been fantastic. A
pity it has no pollen but it's very pod fertile. My Mesmerizer flowered for
the first time on the tallest spikes I've ever seen. I has to seriously cut
the stem I took to the show so people could see the flounces rather than the
bottom of the flower. Clebration Song is just starting to bloom and doing
magnificently. Managua is such a lovely colour but a poor grower for me,
unlike Quito. About Town has been one of the most popular with visitors to
the garden. good old Sunday Punch has been very good this year, ever such a
reliable black-red. Sold out of it already for the season,My father-in-law
had a magificent show stem of it a week to early.
My seedlings are looking good. A floret of Bequine x HeMan took out third
prize in the open floret class. Have a lovely cream with a faint purple
flush from Divine Duchess x Classic Look, hope it will rebloom and a couple
of nice red browns.

Diane what do you spray your thrips with. I've a few minor problems with
them.

Colleen, on a very fresh spring day.
