Hello Sally,
I can see the Corolla lighthouse from my irises, about three miles away
across Currituck Sound here in North Carolina.  If it is real beach sand,
better consider a contained bed where she can control the soil (serious
amount of additives to make a uable soil). Iris are heavy feeders. Or, if it
is more what I have, which is basically an old dune covered with some
topsoil and useful for agriculture, no particular problems except for the
feeding with good organics. Oh, and watch the salt spray when you get the
inevitable nor'easter. Good luck,
