Are there any TBs that combine old-fashioned flower form (no
ruffling, falls that hang down rather than sticking out horizontally)
with traits (like rebloom or better branching and bud count) not
found in historical cultivars? Is anyone breeding for this
combination of traits, which is what I'd most like to see in a
garden plant? <<
Hi Don,
I'm breeding for just those traits. While the modern, highly ruffled form
might be the ideal for shows, it makes a horrid subject for paintings.
Added to the problems associated with too much clutter for a painting,
blooms with intense ruffling (in our cold morning area) simply don't open
as well as the tailored forms.
My ideal TB is over 4 1/2 feet tall (hate bending over!), with strong
stems, multiple branches, disease resistant foliage, complex color (not
pattern), and with the interesting haft marks of the older forms.
Not something that's likely to ever be considered for registration, but
perfect for my needs.
