I have no idea if I did this post correctly, forgive me if I did it wrong.

While reading over gardening questions in Sage Hall, a section of a gardening chat that I frequent, I read this...

"I keep finding something that looks like a dark grey maggot about 1cms long. It looks horrible
and apparently turns into a bright red/brown chrysalis later on. What is it, and what does it turn into, and how do I get rid of it?"

I wanted to ask you here on egroup if you think this is one or two different creatures?? the red/brown chrysalis sounds like an iris borer to me. The other sounds like a grub, perhaps japanese beetle?? Or do borers fit this description too? What do you think? And what would you suggest to irradicate it?
Thanks, Donna Lockman
