That wouldn't be hard. I have seen iris rhizomes sliced lengthways down the
middle, and stored in plastic bags, with wilted leaves, on sale at
Tesselaars open day.

Well 5 actually (I just checked their latest catalogue), and quite a few
more last time, which was the catalogue with the liatris. It certainly casts
doubt on the accuracy of their colours. I think one misrepresented photo in
a catalogue is one too many. Accidents I can accept, but chaged colours from
pink to maroon?
The photo they use of mixed, un-named bearded irises, is the same one on the
plastic bag of mixed irises currently being sold in K-mart, so I assume they
are from the same company originally. I bought a bag of these a few years
back, and they contained unpleasantly droopy, non descript, very small
growing, bearded irises. A friend had the same experience (with the K-mart
irises). These are the same price as K-mart: 2 for 7.70 or 6 for 19.90.
Their daffodils look lovely.
I bought a pack of mixed daffodils from our local primary school bulb drive,
3 years ago. They are gorgeous, and in bloom at present. Mixed they are not.
They are all 'King Alfred' types.
I can't remember if it was the same company I was discussing above, but I
don't think there is another company which handles school charity raising
bulbs.
I can't speak for your experience Heather. There are always differences in
experience between customers in any business. I don't think any of the
popular mail order firms in Australia, are as bad as some of the ones
mentioned on the iris list.
Cheers, Jan
