Hello Dave,

Yes, sort of.  On EARL OF ESSEX this spring.  The deer had chomped
off the bloom stalk to the last bud and got the bud there as well.  A fan
then grew from the bud joint.  When it had four leaves about 3 1/2" tall,
I cut the stalk and stuck it into the ground to the fan.  It appeared to
grow
for a while, but if it had any chance of survival, our ongoing drought and
heat finished it off.  So I'm not sure whether it might have lived under
other conditions.  EE has survived to this point and I would assume the
plantlet would have been a clone had it survived.  Correct?
