As I have been offline this week, and had to set no mail, I don't know who
it was who started this thread.
Anyone wishing to publish part of the iris-talk archives in book form must
firstly seek permission from the writers of any e-mail sent, or of any
portion of that person's e-mail which has been quoted in part or in full in
another persons e-mail.
There are many who are no longer on this list, and may not be contactable
for obtaining such permission.
They would then need to do considerable research to assertain whether the
contents of such e-mails is accurate, or of any value. Many people have
written about their experiences here, and expressed opinions which have
little or no basis in fact. Many have made mistakes, and corrected these in
later postings. It would take forever to analyse and untangle such
information.
Would the 'editor' just take the bits they wanted for this proposed book, or
quote e-mails in full?
A person (or persons) writing, or editing, such a book, would need
considerable knowledge of the subject to begin with, as well as being an
experienced researcher.
Why wouldn't such a person just go ahead and write a book in his/her own
words and take full credit for that book, just as Bill Shear has?
I suggest people just continue to use the archives as a private resource,
and print out for themselves, any little bits of information that they refer
to frequently.
Cheers, Jan Clark, in the land of the "friendly Olympics" where her computer
is recovering from a weeks illness.
