Seriously, it's a neat idea to create such a book, but it's sooo monumental
a task, I doubt anyone (nor a group of anyones) could do it.
It certainly would be a labour of love, and not a money making exercise.
Wilma Valette's book of a similar ilk, based on the old iris robin is a
delightful book, but somewhat eccentric, and absolutely full of mistakes
(many of them edited by hand in the copy I have). It would be worth anyone
intending to repeat the exercise, doing some research as to what the profit,
or indeed financial loss was.

I guess this is where I lose interest in the project, as I have an odd
feeling that the term <<the country>> does not mean the same thing to
Patricia that it does to me.

Yes, for certain people this will always be the case. 500+ members are
clearly going to have much diversity of opinion. It would be a shame to lose
some of our most knowledgeable contributions, because the thought of having
to carefully consider every word puts people off writing.
The main problem I see here is that most topics are taken up and continued
on by a number of people, all expressing different opinions. One or two may
be reluctant to have their e-mails published, but much of their original
mail may have been quoted, or misquoted by other listers. Who then owns the
e-mail you are planning to print? The job of untangling such threads would
be enormous, and would most likely create some controversy, and ill will.
Subject headings are often changed mid thread, so you may have considerably
more trouble than you think, untangling a thread, and finding out who you
are actually quoting in your book.
My opinions only of course,
Don't print the in a book :-)
Cheers, jan
