I have been doing sort of an unintended experiment here.  I have
had a potted rhizome of "Cranberry Ice" that has been
sitting in water for weeks at a time and other than yellowing of
the leaves from lack of oxygen, the rhizomes have shown
no sign whatsoever of rotting.  I was wondering if sterilized
soil is the difference between rhizomes not rotting in the pot
and rhizomes rotting in garden soil.  Was the soil you were using
for your pots sterilized ??
