Hi Robin,
After mentioning our excessive rain in August after a nearly bone dry 2
months prior to that, and that I hadn't experienced much rot here, I
went out yesterday and found that 'Pink All Over' is now more like Dead
All Over from rot. I don't think there is much to do to save it. It is
too far gone. I haven't found any others showing rot, but am gonna keep
a closer eye on the new ones I recently planted. Have noticed several
holes in the beds though. I excavated into a couple and found walnuts
the size of tennis balls buried about 6 inches deep. The squirrels have
been using my new relatively soft dirt beds for winter storage of their
produce. The walnut tree is 200 feet away from the bed, so they have
been busy transporting them to the bed. Now, I am going to have to keep
an eye on that too, to make sure they don't uproot the irises to plant
walnuts.

Lincoln, Nebraska, zone 5 where August 2002 was the third wettest
August in Lincoln history. Some parts of Lincoln got about 8 inches of
rain (and major flooding) in one hour last Wednesday. Luckily, we only
got about 2 inches of rain during that storm.
