I wonder...
It makes sense that if you use the terminal bloom, and then cut off all the other branches and buds, that the plant will put all its energy into producing the one pod you left remaining. Although this makes logical sense to me, I have crossed several flowers on the same stalk and had great pod set no matter how many there were.
Hmmmmm.

When I started hybridizing, I asked a few questions of dealers I was
ordering from, and was told by Terry Aitken that most crosses he
does, and others he's seen in pro beds, take on the terminal flower,
so make that your most valued cross.
That has proved true for me, without exception. Though I often try
the same cross with both top and second blooms if both are blooming
at the same time, and sometimes both have taken. This could be an
interesting thread!
