I'm baaaack!
Nothing reblooming here yet except Sugar Blues and Immortality, but the weather has been so hot and dry, I don't expect much this year. Well water is just no substitute.
Those of you who agonize over no iris blooms during the summer doldrums might want to try some gladiolus and dahlias. Yeah, you'll probably have to dig them every fall, depending on where you live, but the glads will make it through the Zone 5 winter here, as long as they don't heave out of the ground. I had a terrific time showing them at the State Fair this year, learned a lot, and made enough money to pay for the corms and tubers. Pollen daubing nuts can find distraction hybridizing them too, during the iris off-season. Glads are really easy to pollinate.
For those of you who have read this far... I ordered eighty-some iris from Riverview this year. None were particularly large, but all but one took off promptly for me. Unfortunately, the one that's trying to croak is Celebration Song. Especially considering the weather we've had, I'm totally satisfied with them.
