CULT:weeds, damping off?

This is in response to Linda M. comments on healthy happy iris that were
protected by tall weeds. My question is: how did you handle the sun on
these happy plants on the first few days of full "hot" sun? It is has
been in the low 100 % here for several days now and anything unprotected
feels the heat!
