Re: PCI: seedlings

moisture, humidity, temperature, light (latitude) or other or all?
Few post about PCN's make it to iris-talk. Your response is much
appreciated as will be any other input. Bill Burleson 7a/b>

Bill, there was a lot of discussion of trying to grow them several years
ago. Might be worth searching the Mallorn archives. I asked the same
questions you are asking and got some fairly detailed answers. The seem
to like the same growing conditions that many west coast TBs like, which
we don't have - dry summers with low humidity, less erratic weather etc
etc. I think I remember that many (all?) of the PCNs are native to open
woodlands?

I bought a big bunch of seeds from Joe Ghio one year and had two
seedlings live for several years, but neither bloomed (or grew much, for
that matter) and eventually died. Mine were outdoors in a large,
shallow pot with gritty soil, in shade.

Several listers have mentioned successfully growing them from seed in
'impossible' areas, but nobody has posted anything about them lately.

Now that I'm retired and can devote more time to this grand iris
passion, maybe I will try some seeds again too. Keep us posted on what
you find out.
