Seems like I recall that some of the PC species are from
Oregon/Washington Mts while others are from farther south in California
foothills. So maybe seeds from farther north/colder or at least more
pronounced seasonal origins might be more likely to give freeze
tolerance? I think the seedlings I raised managed to live thru at least
two 'normal' (whatever that is anymore) winters.
Walter, do you know if the seeds you collected were from one species or
hybrids?
Seems like I remember some discussion about one of the species being
more adaptable to our climate, but of course I can't remember which one.
Forecast is for another 5 inches of rain in the next few days on top of
the previous 6 or so. Poor irises - they gotta be prepared for 3 months
of drought followed by attempted drowning.
