I expect you are on the correct train of thought. Newly planted, imported 
rhizomes from Washington, Oregon and California here exhibit over a 100% increase 
in the incedence of rot during the first year planted over rhizomes from 
locations east of the Rockies or locally replanted rhizomes.

Interestingly, I have never had rot in a rhizome from the high desert country 
of Oregon (Portland is on the other side of the mountain) regardless of 
planting time. I have planted a number of rhizomes from that area and a couple that 
ordinarily have a fairly high rot tendency here. Nor can I discern a 
north/south line having planted several from Mass., Texas, Missouri and South 
Carolina.

Regardless of aquisition location, all seem generally to perform equally the 
second or third year of residence here.

Hell, however, hath no furry like the first year of planting.
