It appears I misread the eligibility requirement on the Wister. I've reread
the Handbook more than once and still misread the requirement. So--to
summarize, following after Linda Mann's question:
Eligible for:
HM --"second year after introduction to commerce" for TB, BB, IB, SDB, MDB,
MTB;
other classes --"the third year following introduction." "...remain
on the ballot for a period of three (3) years...[but] a variety remains
eligible until such time as it might receive the HM award."
AM --"begins the second year after...the HM award, and eligibility continues
for three (3) years."
Special Award (including Wister) --"Eligibility begins the second year after
the variety after the variety has received its AM and continues for a period
of three (3) years."
Dykes Memorial Medal --"The Special Medal winners become eligible for the
Dykes Medal the first year after receiving the Special Medal. The period of
eligibility is three (3) years."
Perhaps everyone but me had this all under their hat. G Mason was kind enough
to point out to me I had jumped a year on SEA POWER's Wister eligibility. I
appreciate the correction. I nearly memorized the Handbook in two successive
revisions, the second of which was published in 1965. Then I had a fairly
long "vacation" from irisdom resuming not until 1996. There were a lot of
changes during my excursus into other involvements, the pattern of awards
eligibility being one of the matters altered radically.
As to "winter" subject, I have been operating with the understanding that
*whatever* pertains to iris is meat for the grinder on this site, not just
current events. I'm interested in learning anything and everything belonging
to the subject, whenever.....am I alone in that?
