Spring has sprung

Hi

Ellen's talk about how cold it is getting in NH, inspires me to say, at last
the opposite has happened here. We've had (for us) a very bleak and cold
winter. Good rains in small to moderate regular amounts so it all soaked in.
Now any additional rain causes it all to ooze right out again. Found soaks
in places I'd never seen before, no wonder the TBs hadn't thrived in these
spots. For most of June to August our daytime max peaked at 10oC or under.
However we had very few frosts as it was so damp.
Now I have daffodils out all over the place, my collection of these is
starting to get out of hand, I have close on 65 cultivars, mostly pink. The
I reticulata have flowered, well two did. My white one hasn't flowered at
all for two years.
We're seeing sun at last and feeling real warmth, and I can start to believe
that some of the boggy areas may dry out soon.
I can feel flower stems forming in my bearded iris, a few are even blooming
already. Olymparico always flowers in Aug-Sept and then sometimes again in
Oct. Christopher Columbus, Dream Desire, Lyric Dance and Full Tide are
flowering, not sure if it is late rebloom or very early main bloom. Not
their usual time.

Now I need to get many of my seedlings planted out before the real madness
of spring sets in. This is such an exciting time. My first seedlings from my
Sutton imports will soon flower.
