Re: TB:FAV: '03 bearded favorites

I previously mentioned MATT MCNAMES, Duane Meek, 2000. I bought this last year at the
Region 22 Meeting in Searcy, AR. It was a tiny, left-over plant from the Memphis National. It
increased from one plant to about eight and gave two bloomstalks. It is a black bi-tone, and
unlike most blacks here, is quite vigorous, tall, and does not burn. It is a knock-out of an iris.

HIDDEN MESSAGE, Mullin, 2002. This is a Honky Tonk Blues type but was darker and also
grew like a weed. It gave two bloomstalks its first bloom season here. I really don't know what
the message is, but I suspect you'll like the iris anyway.

SPOUTING HORN, Johnson, 2001. Another Honky Tonk Blues child that has a large rim of
white at the bottom of the falls. This is another distinctive iris. You cannot mistake it for
another. It was kinda short with close branching on a first year plant, but I expect that to
improve next year. It also gave very generous increase. I love it.

MAUNA LOA FIRE, Rogers, 2001. A very bright concoction. Hard to describe but one you'll
like. Basically, it has red stripes on a yellow ground. Stand back! It grows like a weed.

CHIM CHAM, Rogers 2003. This was sent a year early and was delight to have bloom the first
year from cold Wisconsin. It is a lighter version of MLF with yellow stripes on a pale orange
ground.

FIRST WAVE, Tasco, 2003. A dark violet that is so ruffled, it is difficult to get to the anthers
and stigmatic lip for crossing purposes. It has almost a horizontal flare. Quite an
advancement in dark violet irises.

Pardon the personal reference, but my own VIOLET SHIMMER won the Best of Show for me at
our local show, and my own 00-44-C won the best seedling. It is a lavender amoena with a red
beard and all petals are slightly toasted at the edges. This is a child of ROMANTIC EVENING.
